Black Sea Regional WMD Exercise

Bucharest, 24 September -- In the timeframe 24 – 28 September 2007, the Regional Center for Combating Transborder Crime (SECI Center) will participate in the Black Sea Regional Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Counter-proliferation Exercise, event coordinated by the representatives of the USA Defense Threat Reduction Agency and FBI.

The Black Sea Regional WMD exercise was planned as a five days national level crisis management scenario demanding coordinated response from Bulgarian, Georgian, Moldova, Romanian and SECI Center authorities. This exercise will permit to test command and control, communication, intelligence sharing and the operational capabilities of all participating countries with major focus on Weapons of Mass Destruction counter proliferation cooperation; will enhance participating states ability to detect, investigate and respond to WMD related incidents.

Exercise venues were arranged in the capital cities of the Black Sea region countries, as well as in the SECI Center premises in Bucharest. The exercise participants represent the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs and Interior, as well as Prosecutor’s Office and the Intelligence and Customs Services of the participating countries. These various agencies will work together towards a successful conclusion to the exercise, exchange information and communicate via telephone line, fax, electronic mail and video-conference.
