Cooperation between the SECI Center and the Netherlands Customs Authority

Bucharest, 6 June 2007- - Enhancing long term cooperation between the SECI Center and the Netherlands Customs Authority were discussed on Tuesday, 5 June 2007, on the occasion of the Meeting of the SECI Center Director, Mr. Mitja Mocnik and Hellenic Customs and Excise Liaison Officer and Centers’ Container Security Task Force (CSTF) Manager, Mr. Petros Petroff with the Head of the Netherlands’ Customs Information Center, Mr. Gerard Bakker, which took place in Rotterdam.

The representatives of the SECI Center and the Netherlands’ Customs Authority stressed that the fruitful cooperation between the parties became a bridge connecting the common interests of the SECI Center Member Countries and the Netherlands in the area of securing Container’s movement and, in extend, preventing and combating all risks and threats related to the containerized shipment.

The high representative of the Netherlands Customs Authority, Mr. Bakker affirmed that the recent financial and technical support granted to the SECI Center will be enhanced, enlarged and transformed to a “long term strategic cooperation” between the parties.

Expressing his thanks for the Netherlands’ Customs Authority support to the SECI Center, Mr. Mocnik said that the SECI Center intends to present this successful project to other law enforcement counterparts, which might be interested in joint cooperation within the SECI Center Task Forces.

SECI Center operational activities are conducted within the frames of  seven Task Forces (TF) addressing issues of drugs and human beings trafficking, stolen vehicles, smuggling and customs fraud, financial and computer crime, terrorism and container security.
