Most of his professional career has been marked by law, he also took part in drafting rules and regulations.
His career path at the Ministry of the Interior started in 1986 at the Legal Service, where he was entrusted with representing the interests of the Ministry before courts of law and other bodies, as well as with drawing up opinions and providing documents for the Office of the State Attorney General. At that time he took part in drafting various statutory and implementing acts concerning the work of the Ministry and the Police, which helped provide a basis for the establishment of Slovenia´s legal order.
Later he was appointed Head of the Aliens Section with responsibilities concerning the implementation of regulations on legal migration.
Since 2001 he has been working at the European Affairs and International Cooperation Service. He is responsible for international legal affairs concerning the scope of work of the Ministry and the Police. He conducted a number of bilateral and multilateral negotiations for the conclusion of international agreements within the competence of the Ministry of the Interior. His work also included responsibilities relating to the field of international legal affairs before and after Slovenia´s accession to the EU till the end of Slovenian Presidency of the EU Council. He has also been SECI National Coordinator since 2009.
