Dr. Erhard Busek SECI Coordinator Chairman of the Institute for the Danube region and Central Europe (IDM ) |
Dr. Erhard Busek was born in Vienna, Austria. He receives his Law degree from the University of Vienna in 1963 and during his studies he is also engaged as the Chairman of the Austrian Youth Council. He begins his professional career as legal advisor to the association of the parliamentarians of the Austrian People's Party. Later he served in a number of administrative positions including Secretary-General of the Austrian Federation for Trade and Commerce, Secretary-General of the Austrian People's Party, Deputy Major of Vienna, Minister of Science and Research, Minister of Education and most recently Vice Chancellor. During 2000-2001 he served as a special representative of the Austrian Government for the Enlargement of the European Union. At present he is Coordinator of the South-Eastern Cooperative Initiative (SECI), Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe and Chairman of the Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe. Dr. Busek's professional activity has to be completed with his academic engagements. He has delivered many lectures on domestic and foreign topics and has published several books. He is Doctor Honoris Causa of the Universities of Krakow, Bratislava and Czernowitz, a visiting professor at Duke University, NC, USA and at the University of Agriculture in Vienna. In this respect he is at present member of the early "reflections group" on Education in the EU under the Chair of Mme. Edith Cresson, editor of the monthly newspaper "Wiener Journal" and Co-chair of the Commission for Radio and Television Policy: Central And Eastern Europe. German being his native language, Dr. Busek speaks English fluently and has a fair knowledge in French and Italian. |
